Student Success and Transfer Articulation through Research and Support Services Research Program

STARS

The STARS Program is a funded by a Department of Education grant and aims to increase the institutional capacity of CPP, Citrus, and Mt. SAC to engage Pell Grant eligible and under-served students in STEM disciplines through undergraduate research and related wrap-around services. The goal of this program is to ensure exposure to undergraduate research early and throughout the student’s university and college career with support services that ensure students develop a sense of STEM self-efficacy, receive timely information, receive proactive advising and mentoring, and foster students’ sense of belonging to both higher education and the STEM community.

For Students

Become a STARS Scholar

The STARS Research Experiences for Undergraduates allows students to participate in high-level faculty-mentored research projects over the course of the academic year. Students that participate in the STARS Program will present their culminating research projects at our annual ½ûÂþÌìÌà RSCA.

Program Benefits

Faculty-Guided Research

Students will dedicate 5–8 hours per week to working on a research project under the guidance of a faculty mentor.

Mentorship & Development

Participants will benefit from faculty mentorship, as well as access to skill-building workshops and career development opportunities.

Semesterly Stipend

Each student will receive $1,000 in stipends at the end of both the Fall and Spring semesters during the academic year.

STARS Program Requirements

As a STARS scholar, some of the requirements you would be expected to complete are:

  • Working on Research with your assigned Faculty Mentor.
  • Completing a Research Paper.
  • Attending Cohort Building Milestones.
  • Meeting with Peer Mentors and Advisors.
  • Presenting your research at the RSCA or other research conference.

Every year we recruit faculty members interested in supporting the undergraduate research mentorship under STARS. Faculty participating in the program will develop a mentoring relationship with students, design and conduct a research project, participate in workshops and more.

Financial Aid

*The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships is responsible for coordinating student resources for the campus. Federal and state regulations require the coordination of all financial aid awards with all resources, including internal and outside (private) scholarships and grants, fellowships, stipends, fee waivers (including the Cal-Vet fee waiver), and vocational rehabilitation and other educational benefits. The total amount of assistance from all sources cannot exceed the ½ûÂþÌìÌà yearly Cost of Attendance (COA). In addition, almost all federal, state, and ½ûÂþÌìÌà grant programs require unmet financial need. All forms of financial aid, including outside scholarships, third-party payments, and tuition & fee waivers must be coordinated with a student’s aid package to ensure that these conditions are met.
