Self-Portrait challenge (30 days): day 1

11/15/2015

OK. I am embarking upon a 30-day self-portrait challenge.
I want to challenge my creativity and experimentation with lighting and style.
Photo Gods BE WITH ME..
Picture
DAY 1 - Is it just me... Or is it getting chilly outside?! (It's Nov. 15, 2015.) Also, please send help. I've locked myself outside on the deck. (jk)

A few things I learned from this self-portrait: (1) The digital noise, or what would normally be grain in a film photo, is readily apparent in this photo. I had forgotten to check what my ISO was on - and it was on HI - above 600! However, in doing that I like how the sky is blown out to white behind me (although perfectly overcast days help with this too) and the color vibrancy is kind of amazing. (2) I like the light behind me filling in the hair as highlights and I really like the purple brought out in the hat and the light (and color) coming through the vintage deck chair (it rocks, truly).  (3) Another interesting note is that I had the window open for the remote trigger to work, but there is a window screen present, and this is barely visible. This adds texture and a "realism" to the light and pressure of my hand as I, the subject, am looking IN.
(4) One last thing, I purposely balanced the window frame in the left to line up, vertically, with the left edge of the image. This gives the photo context for the story it's telling and a sort of visual balance. I'm fairly happy with this turnout, but was originally visualizing the photo to have been more of a close-up. ON TO THE NEXT!
